Soledades – After Trova, his previous book that made such an impression on photography fans and won the HiP award in the ‘Artistic Monograph’ category, which quickly sold out, Gilles Roudière is back with a new project published by Editions Lamaindonne, Soledades, which retraces four trips to Andalusia. ‘As I did with my last project in Cuba, I’m aiming to take a look that is free of clichés and commonplaces. Always driven by light, I approach my subjects without any documentary or descriptive intention. That’s how I began this journey, with a first trip that took me for a fortnight to the province of Almeria, and more specifically to the Tabernas desert. Depopulated landscapes, arid lands, dusty skies, dead trees, a few furtive or indolent animals and strange, surreal presences. That’s what the images in this first part are full of. Other journeys followed in pursuit of other landscapes, emotions and the memory of places and their inhabitants, and always in search of that light that is so important to me…’. Gilles Roudière
