Fruits of Labor – Fruits of Labor – Ravestijn Gallery brings together new works by Dutch artists Ruth van Beek and Mariken Wessels. Their mutual interest in exploring the creative act and their interventions with existing materials intersect to form a powerful reflection on the female artist. In Van Beek’s spatial collage installation, ordinary objects take on a body and life of their own. She explores the tenuous boundaries between the studio and domestic life, the repetition of daily tasks and the origins of her interest in household manuals and books. In Wessels’ new series of sculptures and collages, it is the female body that becomes material.
With poems by Basje Boer and an essay by Robert Petzoldt.
