Each year, the HSBC Prize for Photography supports two prize-winning photographers who have never published a monographic work in the production of a traveling exhibition accompanied by production support.
Aassmaa Akhannouch was inspired by her childhood home in Morocco to create this series that explores her memories. The photographer makes us relive the spirit of the place by replaying scenes, such as suspended moments, in this house where remain the old television set out of order, the telephone that will not ring anymore, the dress long forgotten in the closet…
Then follows the time of the print, a long time that mixes techniques and materials. In her laboratory, the photographer goes from the negative to the cyanotype, which will be turned and enhanced with watercolor in order to underline some details of the image. Aassmaa Akhannouch thus reveals the passing of time and sketches the vision of a timeless Morocco imbued with universal childhood memories.
