There Is Hope But Not For Us – Inspired by a quote of Franz Kafka, this book is a palimpsest, a kind of colorful fiction composed later images that are superimposed on erased, former memories. With a mix of collages made by Vincent Delbrouck, photographs and erotic, vintage images are layered on pages from an old cactus book.
Helen is a reoccuring character in the images and collages of the book. Formely the wife of the artist, Helen left him two months after the making of the last images of her in Spain, last winter.
There Is Hope But Not For Us exists as a living and vibrant process: the contemplation of a period and the search for experimentation while in the chaos of the studio. Images spread everywhere. The images are funny, colorful and crazy while nostalgic at the same time. A sort of imaginary diary, created in the absence of hope but open to new desires.
