In 1963, Ed Ruscha published Twentysix Gasoline Stations, a seminal book that profoundly shifted the definition of the contemporary artist’s book: a poor, reproducible publication in which the protocol takes precedence over the image itself. Sixty years later, twentysix twentysix rigorously reactivates this structure in order to question its exhaustion. The project brings together artists who have replayed, displaced, or mocked this editorial gesture through their own publications. With Correspondences, emails, letters, and documents related to the making of the project become documentary material through which the circulation of forms and the economy of the artist’s book as an autonomous exhibition space are replayed.
