All Words and One
All Words and One
This is a book about a single word: “Skiapod.” What began as the task of taking a single word from among all existing words, expanding and changing its meaning, quickly became a fascinating journey through human history and our strange human minds. This book shows how an idea can travel through different eras, crystallize in the minds of different artists, and take shape in different media. From cave drawings to faxes, from Malevich to Guston. The book also raises questions: Why do we need to create images and meaning? What are we trying to capture when we create the image of a mythical figure? Why do we need to do this? And where can we find the truth in the different chapters of this book? Does this book also say something about all the other words that exist? Should we start writing other books about other words? And what is the right word for the blue printed on the cover of this book?
