Cristina de Middel Apoteosis Now

Published on the occasion of the exhibition Apotheosis Now at IVAM (Valencia), this catalogue presents a new body of work by acclaimed Spanish photographer Cristina de Middel. Bringing together photographs made over the past two decades, the book abandons linear storytelling in favour of a constellation of autonomous images where documentary, fiction, intuition and symbolism coexist. A child perched on a donkey beside an elderly man, a precarious stack of charred pizza crusts, or a solitary steak illuminated by an airplane window become visual fragments that oscillate between the everyday and the surreal. Freed from narrative sequence, these images invite readers to slow down and reflect on the power of photography in an age of visual saturation. Featuring a text by Iván de la Nuez, Apotheosis Now is both an exhibition catalogue and a compelling exploration of how we construct meaning through images.
