The Work of Toru Hatta
The first collection of works by Toru Hatta, a ceramist gaining attention and making remarkable strides. Each month, he fires his anagama kiln and pours himself into vessel-making. The artist's fervent passion inhabits his creations, moving people deeply.
The worldwide solo exhibition ‘Hatta Toru Solo Exhibition World Tour 2025-26’ will commence in New York in March 2025, touring subsequently to Shanghai, Germany, Japan, Taiwan, Toronto, and Sydney. This volume features newly commissioned photographs of the works and a text of approximately 3000 characters detailing his passion for ceramics. A book brimming with energy.


Author Biography
Born in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, 1977. After graduating from the Department of Environmental Design, Faculty of Engineering, Osaka Sangyo University in 2000, became a trainee at Maishima Ceramic Art Museum, aspiring to become a ceramic artist.
In 2003, took over the ceramics studio ‘Kirakuho’ (Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture) from its previous owner.
In 2004, built his first anagama kiln, ‘Kiraku Kiln’.
2008: Founding member of the Sakai Craft Fair ‘Tōshibito no Tsudoi’.
2009: First solo exhibition at wad, Osaka. 2015: ‘Muraki Yūji, Hatta Tōru: Summer Mishima Exhibition’ at Utsuwa Shōken onariNEAR (Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture).
2016 Constructed a home and workshop in Tondabayashi City, Osaka Prefecture.
2017 Held first solo exhibition at Utsuwa Shōken KAMAKURA; subsequently held annual August exhibitions. 2018 Held first overseas solo exhibition at Small Art Gallery (Taipei City, Taiwan).
2019 Appointed Chairman of the Lamp Makers' Gathering. Held solo exhibitions at CIBONE AOYAMA (Gaienmae, Tokyo) that same year and at Tōkyo (Nishi-Azabu, Tokyo) in 2020.
2022 Constructed second anagama kiln, ‘Kusunoki Kiln’. March 2025 Commenced ‘Hatta Toru Solo Exhibition World Tour 2025-26’.
