Gods First – It is probably no coincidence that, for this new body of work, François Halard has chosen exclusively ancient and archaeological subjects – statues, busts and fragments of sculptures. These were photographed with a Polaroid camera, then cropped, enlarged, reworked, and finally coated with wax – and in some cases covered with words and names drawn with a brush. The photographer has nurtured a passion for the Polaroid process; over the years it seems to have become his favorite medium, allowing him to experiment in an intimate and alchemical way.
