Most artists have, at some point, depicted the motif of the hand, the absolute symbol of creation. Many also have the hand as a subject in its own right as a recurring theme. This observation inspired Cécile Poimboeuf-Koizumi – editor and founder of Chose Commune – to gather the works that caught her eye, without following any thematic or chronological order. The selection was made in collaboration withStephen Ellcock, who has made a name for himself in recent years by making the art gallery accessible to the general public with his fabulous collection of images that he shares daily on Instagram and Facebook. From Pablo Picasso to Helena Almeida, Louise Bourgeois to Alberto Giacometti, John Baldessari to Francesca Woodman, as well as a multitude of treasures from antiquity and documents from popular imagery, Jeux de mains confronts and mixes famous, emerging and anonymous artists with the most diverse artistic practices. The result is a collection of over one hundred images, intuitively compiled in this book that is now in your hands.
Note: This book has been bound in Japanese style. The pages are not intended to be cut out. If you gently open the pages, you will discover the information about each of the works inside.
