L’Amoureuse – Following the success of Mère et fils (published in 2018), Editions Loco are delighted to collaborate once again with Brussels-based artist Anne De Gelas with the reissue of her book: L’Amoureuse published in 2013 by Le Caillou Bleu and since then impossible to find.
L’Amoureuse is an autobiographical chronicle of the immense pain of mourning the loss of a loved one. It’s a narrative that, as we’ll find years later in Mère et fils, combines diary extracts, photographs (self-portraits, portraits of her son, still lifes…) and scribbled drawings. Compositions that have become characteristic of the style of this singular artist.
“T., my lover, my son’s father, died on April 5, 2010 of a stroke. He fell next to us on a North Sea beach. The violence of his death left me with a great emptiness… a silence that echoed in my head, echoed by the intense blue sky of the absence of airplanes due to the ashes of an angry volcano, my anger. Faced with this loss, I plunged into my daily diary work, which I’ve been keeping up for over 10 years, writing down my suffering but also the overflow of life that was bubbling up inside me.” Anne De Gelas Anne De Gelas
