Test Department

Test Department gathers an accumulation of tests and studies originally made on wooden panels by Belgian artist Charline Tyberghein (°1993) since she graduated from the Royal Academy of Antwerp. Offering itself as a sort of library of spellbinding painting samples, it demonstrates the artist’s mastery of trompe-l’oeil techniques et Op art effets to trick the viewer’s eyes. In Tyberghein’s work, highly simplified objects are reduced to symbols and pictograms which are then inflated to reach a maximum yet ambiguous readability. Banal objects and universal symbols are claimed as the artist’s own to translate her most personal experiences, turning them into in a new, parallel language.
