This publication is the first monograph devoted to the French-Algerian artist Neïl Beloufa (1985). Love, hate, war, technology, social unrest, bodies and words in crisis: this is the material of Beloufa’s work. His films, sculptures and multimedia installations boldly explore how art can address contemporary issues, challenging contemporary representations of social relations, power plays and political and economic structures. An artist who favors collaboration over authorship and reactive strategies over predetermined intentions, Beloufa has invented his own working methods and a particular approach to the studio.
The catalog presents the artist’s projects over the past 12 years, including recent experiments with online platforms and NFTs; it takes as its starting point Beloufa’s solo exhibition, Digital Mourning, at Pirelli Hangar Bicocca in Milan, and offers a non-conformist vision of the monograph genre, thanks to Olivier Lebrun’s playful and inventive book design.
Texts by Anahi Alviso-Marino, Negar Azimi, Guillaume Désanges, Yilmaz Dziewior, Ruba Katrib, Jesse McKee.
